How do you know if you need to see a pelvic floor therapist?
Hi, I am Dr. Alicia Jeffrey-Thomas. I'm a pelvic floor physical therapist, and I'm here to answer questions submitted by the plusOne community.
So how do you know if you need to see a pelvic floor therapist?
So a pelvic floor therapist is a physical or occupational therapist who's had extra training in pelvic floor rehab, which means that we are kind of the musculoskeletal experts of those muscles that are running from the pubic bone to the tailbone, and kind of everything above and below that as well.
This means it could be worth a visit to a pelvic floor therapist if you're experiencing things like bladder issues, so urine leakage or urgency frequency, bowel issues like constipation, pelvic pain issues, which could be anything from pain with intercourse to lower back and hip pain if you're postpartum or dealing with abdominal separation and needing to get your core stronger.
All of those things kind of fall under the umbrella of a pelvic floor therapist.
