What is Aftercare and Why is it Important?
Hi, my name is Todd Baratz. I'm a licensed mental health therapist and a certified sex therapist. I'm here to answer questions submitted by you, the plusOne community.
The question is, what is aftercare and is it important?
Aftercare is the time spent together after sex. It's time to check in, reconnect and ensure all partners feel cared for and comfortable. It's a good routine to develop because it can strengthen emotional bonds, offer space for vulnerable communication and provide closure, especially after an intense or new experience - and any sexual experience.
Aftercare can look like cuddling, talking, or simply lying together in silence. Whatever form it takes, aftercare is about reinforcing a sense of safety and support. This will allow all partners to feel seen and understood.
Aftercare helps deepen connection and will help you trust each other more.
