How do women with surgical menopause navigate menopause and specialists?
I am Dr. Karyn Eilber. I'm a urologist who specializes in urogynecology, and I'm also part of plusOne's Wellness Collective. I'm here to answer questions that have been submitted by the plusOne community.
And today's question is, how do women with surgical menopause navigate menopause and specialists?
The difference of a woman who is undergoing surgical menopause versus the woman who is undergoing natural menopause is that the woman who has surgery can experience menopausal symptoms immediately as opposed to gradually over time when a woman undergoes natural menopause, she can navigate this by consulting with a specialist who is familiar with hormone therapy, and also assuming that the woman does not have a contraindication of taking hormones.
There are also non-hormonal treatments for menopausal symptoms, and a woman can also just opt to see how she feels after she becomes surgically menopausal.
Tune in next week to hear more questions have been submitted by the plusOne community, and how I and the Wellness Collective can help answer those questions for you.
